Embracing Worth: A Mother’s Day Reflection on the Widow’s Oil๐ŸŒฟ

It’s been a whirlwind these past few months, and I am so happy to be back in this space with you. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

This Motherโ€™s Day was our third without my mom ๐Ÿฆ‹, and with our sons on the other side of the country, it was certainly a mixed bag of gratitude and grief. While I entered the day with joy, I also felt the pangs of loss.

Yet, each of you, with your memories and stories, has not given up. You are survivors, and you are here! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Pastor Karla Sanchez-Renfro and I shared a message about the “queens” in scripture, which reminds us that itโ€™s not about how you start but how you finish. Your past doesn’t define your future. One story that perfectly illustrates this is the miraculous tale of the Widow’s Oil. ๐ŸŒฟ

Discovering Your True Identity

If you’re feeling overlooked, healing from loss, or wanting to embrace all that God created you to be, remember that we all need someone to remind us of our true identity. These stories are for everyone.

You can watch both of our messages [HERE].

The Widow and Her Small Jar of Oil

In 2 Kings 4:1-7, we meet a widowโ€”a single mom in deep despair, burdened by debt, and fearing the loss of her children to slavery. She reaches out to Elisha, not just any random person, but a man connected to a God her late husband worshipped. Setting aside her communityโ€™s beliefs, she courageously seeks help.

When Elisha asks what she has in her house, she replies, “Just a small jar of oil.” I want to pause here on that word: “just.” It was a small jar, not the giant sizes we find in stores today, but enough for a fingertip application. Yet, it was enough for God to transform her life and her family.

ย Life Lessons: Knowing Your Worth

From this story, we learn a profound truth about knowing our worth. It isnโ€™t about how much we have or the size of our problemsโ€”itโ€™s about trusting that we are worthy of Godโ€™s grace.

Today, think about what might be holding you back. What is the “oil in a jar” that you’re looking for God to multiply? Like the widowโ€™s oil, what you consider insignificant might be what God uses to create abundance in your life. Letโ€™s approach God not just with our needs but with trust, ready to see Him fill our empty jars to overflow.

God will make a way. While we wait, he provides strength as we trust him.

ย Embrace Abundance

The widow was not lacking, and neither are you. Embrace your worth and trust in God’s endless goodness.
